Guyanese Flag
Guyana’s flag, designed by Whitney Smith, was nicknamed “The Golden Arrowhead” because it has a yellow and red arrow on a green base. The colors on the flag are red, yellow, green, black, and white. The red color on the flag symbolizes zeal and the sacrifice of Guyana’s people while trying to gain independence. Yellow (The Golden Arrowhead) means mineral wealth and a bright future for all of the Guyanese people. Green shows the forests and agricultural fields in Guyana. White represents the rivers and water. Black shows the perseverance of the people in Guyana. The flag was officially hoisted for the first time on Guyana’s Independence Day, May 26, 1966. May 26, 1966 is also Guyana’s flag adoption day.
